Schattenmorelle
Sour cherry, Prunus cerasus
Due to the high adaptability to different sites this variety is the most widely grown sour cherry variety in the world. Schattenmorelle is suitable for mechanical harvesting to a limited extent and is primarily used for juicemaking and for preserved products. The less vigorous growth requires the use of stronger growing rootstocks. Own roots Schattenmorelle produces weak growing and compact, highly productive trees, which are good for harvesting by hand. Blind wood production can be an issue. This can be prevented with consistent pruning. High susceptibility to Monilia disease makes it nearly impossible to cultivate it without appropriate treatments.
